The easiest time in one’s life to learn a new language is childhood or adolescence as this is the time when everything is fresh and new, and the groundwork for learning is being laid. However, this does not mean that you cannot learn a new language as an adult! No pain, no gain

We all have tough aspects in our language-learning journey and while it would be nice to prevent them entirely, practically speaking, it is impossible.

Whether it’s frustrations related to content material, difficulties with time management, miscommunications or embarrassment from catching yourself in a faux pas, any kind of learning involves at least some pain.

However, if you look at your obstacles as an opportunity to grow, you begin to challenge yourself and change your mindset. And this is the most important first step to alleviating your language-learning difficulties.

After that, the trick is to not let that frustration get the better of you.

Focus on your progress, not on results

In order to avoid becoming frustrated and giving up on the acquisition of a new language always focus on the process of learning and do not compare your progress to that of other people. We all learn in our own way and at our own pace, as learning is a very individual and often mysterious state. Put time and energy into the language you are learning but realize that you will have good days and bad days and that they are all a part of the learning process. Resist the urge to constantly ask yourself, how you are doing and instead ask yourself what you can do to engage the language more completely?

Slow and steady wins the race

Be realistic and understand that learning a language will not be something you learn overnight. It will take some time to learn the language and then longer to perfect it and become aware of all the nuances of the language. With this in mind, do not be deterred or do not let yourself get discouraged. If you must plod along some days then do so but celebrate the fact that you are taking on this challenge at all.

 

 

Repetition, repetition, repetition

Study often and as intensely as possible. Make sure you have all of your study materials on hand and find a quiet, well-lit area where you can do your work. Put your all into your work and you will find that you are progressing. With the appropriate support and conversational practice, you should be able to master the basics of the language in as little as two months!. Even if it takes you a little bit longer, keep pushing forward to the finish line and you will be successful.
